CDC role
Gayle Langley, MD, MPH works to improve the quality, transparency, credibility, and impact of guidelines and recommendations from CDC and the Community Preventive Services Task Force (CPSTF) by establishing standards for, and supporting development of, systematic evidence reviews, recommendations, and guidelines that protect and improve public health.
Previous experience
Gayle has served as team lead for the Systematic Review Science Team in the Community Guide Program (CGP) within the Office of Scientific Evidence and Recommendations (OSER) since April 2022. Gayle joined CDC in 2006 as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in the National Center for HIV/AID, Hepatitis, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP)/ Division of Viral Hepatitis (DVH). Prior to joining OS, Gayle worked as a medical epidemiologist in the areas of viral hepatitis, respiratory infections, and enteric infections. During her time in the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) Division of Viral Diseases (DVD) she served as a principal investigator and leda scientific advisory committee for the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP). She also served as medical director for the Emerging Infections Program's (EIP) Active Bacterial Core surveillance (ABCs), in the Division of Bacterial Diseases (DBD). She also worked in the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) Division of Foodborne, Waterborne and Environmental Diseases (DFWED) leading the National Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring System Team (NARMS).
Education
Gayle holds a medical degree from the University of Rochester and completed her residency in pediatrics. She worked four years as a general pediatrician before beginning her federal career. She also holds a master's degree in public health from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor's degree in business management from Cornell University.
