Leading causes of death

The National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) receives, analyzes, and shares data about deaths across the nation. NVSS experts use these data to determine the leading causes of death—the diseases, injuries, and other causes that lead to the most deaths each year.

Stats of the States provides U.S. maps featuring state-level data for 17 of the most common causes of death.
